Certification in Mindful Yoga and Meditation

lotusRYT-500 Certification in Mindful Yoga and Meditation
Exclusively for graduates of Spirit Rock’s Mindfulness Yoga and Meditation Training!

With Anne Cushman, Janice Gates, and Jill Satterfield
April 10-17, 2016, Mount Madonna Center

Yoga teachers who have completed Spirit Rock’s MYMT training—and who already have their RYT-200 certification with Yoga Alliance—can become certified at the RYT- 500 level by attending this 8-day intensive teacher-training retreat. Open to graduates of MYMT 1, 2, and 3, this retreat builds on the foundation of the Spirit Rock Mindful Yoga program to fulfill the highest level of Yoga Alliance certification requirements. If you have been accepted into and registered for MYMT3, you are eligible to register now for this certification retreat.

About the Retreat
This retreat will focus on deepening the art of teaching yoga in a way that addresses the interpenetrating layers of your students’ physical, energetic, emotional, and mental bodies–in order to support and embody the journey of meditative awakening. Together we’ll explore specific approaches to teaching asana, pranayama, and seated meditation from the inside out to help students cultivate embodied presence, aliveness, mindfulness, joy, and equanimity. The training will emphasize guiding you deeper into your own unique teacher’s voice, empowering your own vision for what you want to bring your students, rather than imposing a method from the outside.

We’ll especially look at:

  • how to work with body and breath to address the energetic blocks and emotional wounds that inevitably reveal themselves as we journey deeper into the meditative aspects of our practice
  • the dynamics of a healthy student-teacher relationship and the potential pitfalls of a teacher’s journey
  • what the current brain research tells us about the power of mindfulness practice
  • how to effectively bring the benefits of mindful yoga to a wide range of populations
  • elements of mindful yoga
  • articulating your own integration of mindfulness and asana
  • how to teach foundational asanas with an emphasis on mindfulness
  • how to integrate mindfulness in different class styles: vinyasa, yin, restorative, etc.
  • weaving intentions and themes into classes
  • skillful use of imagery to support mindful presence
  • designing mindful yoga and meditation classes, daylongs, and retreats
  • qualities of a mindful teacher
  • yoga teacher ethics
  • pranayama: uses, approaches, integration with meditation, how to teach
  • the business of yoga: money and sustainability
  • neuroscience and meditation
  • approaches to teaching mindfulness meditation
  • the emotional body
  • working with trauma and strong emotions with your students
  • processes for giving and receiving constructive feedback
  • daily teaching practicums and critique

This will not be a silent retreat but an interactive training (although part of each day will be held in silence). This will be a wonderful opportunity to share with and learn from each other in community, building on the common background of your MYMT training. Even if you are not interested in (or already have) your 500-hour certification, you are welcome to attend just to deepen your own practice and teaching.
